WALKINGSTICKS
Made by Bouwe Trommel from Leeuwarden (The Netherlands)
Carving a walkingstick with only a folding knife.I started about 1975 I keep
myself busy with woodcarving.I started with broomsticks and now I use pieces
of wood I have found on the ground. I never cut a branch from a tree that is
alive. In this way the dead tree gets a second life. If you use a folding
knife you will be limited in the forms and corners you make. Finishing them with
sandpaper and line-oil. The results are often surprising. May be the pictures of
the sticks can stimulate other people to start with this very old hobby to
make a stick, staff or a hikingstick for themselves.
More models to be seen at Marcel
van Berkel, woodcarver at Seerijp (Striep) on Terschelling.
